If you already followed this tutorial earlier and got the old driver installed. Just follow steps 1 to 5. Skip steps 6 and 7. Continue with step number 8.

If I helped someone and that nice person feels sort of generous I'd be happy about a Steam gift:P. Very much a side point, but I've had many issues (both myself and on behalf of other people) with MS over the years. Sadly, they're one of those companies where their size means that some departments just aren't as good as others (a bit like Sony compared to their old Sony Online Entertainment - anyone who has had to deal with them will know precisely what I mean).

Of course your mileage may vary here, but I'm in Britain. The way I've got round such issues is to IGNORE the general - often overseas - call centres, and speak to MS UK direct.

You might have to ask to be transferred a few times, but there are a number of people who will say although it isn't their department, they'll get to the bottom of the issue with you. Hope this helps for the future.

You won't believe how many hours i've wasted talking to Microsoft about this issue and they always kept telling me I had to get a replacement for the receiver and/or something is wrong with my machine!

I've been through that, the MS guy couldn't help with anything.Thank you very much for post this, it works, but I got one more problem: the controller doesn't vibrate when I use it wirelessly and I'm pretty sure it vibrates well when it wired, I tried some games like COD10, BF4 and Crysis 3, the controller just didn't vibrate, and like always, the MS guys couldn't help, any one also got the same problem? As I stated in my opening post, it SEEMS like everyone has that issue, even those folks who got the receiver to work out of the box. Microsoft will release the Accessories App (and supposedly a patch) on tuesday 27th. With the app you can update the firmware of the XBO controller to make it fully compatible with the wireless receiver. We can only hope that after this has happened the vibration and audio functions are working as intended. I assume you also do not receive audio signal with the wireless dongle?

I assume you also do not receive audio signal with the wireless dongle? No audio, you know, controller without audio and vibration is worse than mouse&keyboard. How did you get that info? I guess that's why Amazon and others say the release date is 27th. Yeah this is very annoying. I found the App but just shows a pic of my controller. I guess they are directing all their attention to the Elite controller. I was on the Help Chat with MS yesterday trying to ask if there would be a patch or anything related to the rumble working wirelessly. One of the stupidest conversations I've ever had. The reps don't listen. Absolutely useless talking to them.

I said the controller doesn't rumble/vibrate as it should wirelessly although works fine with USB cable. He said he wasn't sure what I meant. Originally posted by:Yeah this is very annoying. This is precisely why I posted my little bit earlier on in the thread. Frontline support are just an outsourced call centre and hopeless, to be frank, especially with anything technical. For the future, I cannot recommend enough tracking down your country's MS HQ and ringing them. I've always had far more success with them. Sure, you might get someone who tries to push you back to the main helpline, but be persistent (but not rude).

I have had this device working under Windows 8 x64, but now I have Windows 8.1 x64 (clean installed) and it simply doesn't see the device. Under Windows 8 (as far as I can remember) it showed an unknown device, which I selected the device software from the list. However, in Windows 8.1 it simply doesn't show a device. There is no unknown device, or any device which could be the receiver. When I unplug it, and put it in another USB-port, it simply doesn't notice something is happening.

No 'USB-unplug' sound, and when plugged back in, not giving any feedback. What can I do to still get this thing working? I am so done with it all, I actually expected that buying a genuine Microsoft product would be supported in future Windows releases. So naive of me. I am no noob, but using the xbox 360 wireless controller on an all USB 3.0 Intel NUC running Windows 8.1/64 just can't be done. It fails to start (code 10) on all USB ports.

Tried to trick it using a powered USB 2.0 hub but it just does not work. Manual driver selection, just doesn't work. I wouldn't be surprised if some Chinese clone would actually still work.

I was really happy using it with my old hardware. Will not consider purchasing Microsoft hardware anymore. I just hope my Curve keyboard will be supported in Windows 10. I can understand their motives.

But that makes me a very unsatisfied customer.
