This app goes above and beyond to ensure you do not get confused. The best example of this is the clear and concise wording of their lesson notes.
Many teachers and professors have a problem of over-complicating material for students by using confusing or unorthodox wording. The developers really go out of their way to ensure your pronunciation is correct. I highly recommend saying words out loud (when noones around, of course) because the trick to learning this language seems to be the difficult pronunciations. Last bit of advice: make sure you download the Pinyin keyboard for your iPhone before starting a lesson. Pinyin is basically Chinese in Latin characters. It creates building blocks, starting with simple sentence structures rather than making learners memorize canned phrases without understanding their components. Every word is translated/explained, and you can practice writing the characters. For each word it shows the Chinese character, pinyin transcription, and translation into English (and several other languages in the settings), as well as audio pronunciation (well enunciated, with option to slow down the audio). It also offers built-in flashcards, review exercises, and learning games - all that for free. Simply superb if you want to teach yourself Chinese.
